Despina Pittas, MA, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor and certified Behavioral Health Screener. She has over 17 years of experience in crisis intervention, education and prevention, addictions and assessments. Despina has an ability to diffuse stressful situations, manage all types of personalities, and work with diverse populations in one-on-one, family and group settings. Despina has helped develop and implement curriculums, programs, and trainings for the Developmentally Disabled Mentally Ill population and adolescents for Youth Partial Care and juvenile facility. Furthermore, Despina is affiliated with the Traumatic Loss and Coalition.
Despina’s interests and specialties include, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, non-suicidal self-harm behaviors, teen issues, peer pressure, self-esteem, parent/child relational problems, anger and stress management, group psychotherapy, LGTBQA , mood disorders, truancy, defiance/oppositional, and crisis intervention. Despina has practiced in a variety of treatment settings that include, partial hospitalization, inpatient, intensive outpatient, outpatient, ER and school based. She is eclectic and uses a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt, Solution Focused, and Psycho-education for adolescents and adults. A holistic and compassionate approach is utilized by exploring with and educating clients about how mind, spirit and body are interconnected. Her theory is that when people have hope and can learn to challenge and replace negative thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes, people are free to experience change. Learning is the discovery that something is possible. Despina believes that we are greater then the sum of our parts.
